A Proactive Step Against Crime

The installation of 24 CCTV cameras marks a significant effort by the Miri Hospital Visitors Board to address rising concerns about crime in the hospital vicinity. Costing RM50,000, the project was funded through generous donations from local businesses and organizations, including Fastart Sdn Bhd. The cameras are strategically placed to monitor key areas, providing round-the-clock surveillance to deter potential criminal activities.

Councillor Jeffery Phang, chairman of the Miri Hospital Visitors Board, highlighted the initiative’s importance in fostering a secure environment. “The CCTVs serve as a preventive measure, ensuring the safety of everyone who relies on the hospital’s services,” he said during the launch ceremony.

Community and Government Collaboration

The project was officiated by Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who commended the board’s proactive approach. He urged the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities and respecting hospital property, emphasizing that community involvement is key to maintaining safety.

“This initiative reflects the strength of collaboration between the community and private sector in addressing local challenges.”

Fastart’s support aligns with its ongoing efforts to contribute to Sarawak’s social and economic well-being. Tommy Raymond Jok, Managing Director of Fastart, expressed pride in supporting the initiative, noting its direct impact on the Miri community.

Enhancing Trust and Security

The CCTV system not only deters crime but also builds trust among hospital users. By providing a safer environment, the initiative supports healthcare workers and patients, ensuring they can focus on care and recovery without safety concerns. The cameras are expected to reduce incidents of vehicle break-ins and theft, which have been a persistent issue in the area.

Fastart’s involvement reflects its broader mission to empower communities through meaningful contributions. The company, known for its oil and gas expertise, has a history of supporting local initiatives, from education to infrastructure development.

A Model for Community-Driven Solutions

The Miri Hospital CCTV project serves as a model for how private sector and community collaboration can address pressing local needs. Fastart’s participation, alongside other donors, demonstrates the power of collective action in creating lasting change.

Looking ahead, the Miri Hospital Visitors Board plans to maintain and expand the CCTV system as needed, ensuring long-term safety for the hospital community. Fastart remains committed to supporting such initiatives, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in Sarawak’s progress.
