KUCHING (June 5): Fastart Sdn Bhd, a leading player in Malaysia’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) sector, has pledged RM 100,000 to the Sarawak Unity Education Fund (SUEF), a private sector initiative launched to provide bond-free scholarships to deserving Sarawakian students. This contribution underscores Fastart’s dedication to fostering human capital development and supporting the state’s vision for a sustainable, knowledge-driven economy.

The SUEF, launched on April 30, 2024, aims to empower needy and talented students across Sarawak by providing financial assistance for higher education at recognized public and private universities in Malaysia. The fund has already raised over RM3.57 million from generous corporate and individual donors, with Fastart’s RM 100,000 contribution adding to this significant milestone.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the fund’s patron, emphasized during the launch that SUEF aligns with Sarawak’s goal of prioritizing talent development to support the state’s transition to a new economy based on renewable energy, hydrogen, and digital technology. Fastart’s involvement reflects its commitment to this vision.
According to Tommy Raymond Jok, Managing Director of Fastart, the company’s contribution to SUEF is part of its broader mission to give back to the Sarawakian community.
Fastart, originally a timber industry player, has grown into a key OGSE provider since diversifying in 2009. Its focus on local employment and skills development mirrors SUEF’s goal of empowering Sarawakians through education. The company’s RM 100,000 donation will help fund scholarships for students pursuing academic excellence in fields critical to Sarawak’s future.
The SUEF, chaired by Datuk Richard Lee Say Tshin, is designed to support students from all communities in Sarawak, ensuring equitable access to higher education. Grover Peter Gani, head of the SUEF secretariat, noted that scholarships are expected to be disbursed starting September 2024, providing timely support for the upcoming academic intake.
Fastart’s contribution will directly support these scholarships, enabling students to acquire skills in areas such as green energy and digital technology, aligning with Sarawak’s economic aspirations. The company’s involvement also strengthens its reputation as a socially responsible corporate citizen.
The SUEF represents a collaborative effort between private corporations and the Sarawak government to develop high-quality human capital. Fastart’s participation, alongside other notable donors like Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, highlights the private sector’s role in complementing state initiatives.
By investing in education, Fastart is helping to groom future leaders who will contribute to Sarawak’s progress and prosperity. This aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts in sustainability and community empowerment, as seen in its oil and gas projects and partnerships with industry leaders like Petronas.
