Originally rooted in the timber industry, Fastart has successfully diversified into oil and gas, with a broad scope of services to include civil construction and maintenance.

In an exciting development for the local oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) sector, Fastart Sdn Bhd (Fastart) was commemorated as one of 47 Sarawakian vendors by the Sarawak Government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) during the recently-held Sarawak Commemoration Day.
To date, 72 Sarawak companies have been commemorated by Petronas, which aims to continue supporting local service providers in Sarawak.
Fastart, originally rooted in the timber industry, diversified into oil and gas in 2009 after a major change in its shareholders and management team. Ten years on, the company has broadened its scope of services to include civil construction and maintenance.
According to Tommy Raymond Jok, Managing Director of Fastart, this shift marked a significant milestone in the company’s evolution.
“The transition to oil and gas was driven by the sector’s robust growth prospects and our ambition to enhance our service portfolio. This strategic move has paid off, positioning Fastart as a crucial player in the energy industry.”
To date, Fastart has collaborated on several high-profile projects with Petronas and other oil majors and main contractors—particularly in blasting, painting, and coating services. These projects have elevated Fastart’s technical capabilities and underscored its commitment to delivering top-tier services.
From the beginning, Fastart has prioritised local employment. The company first ventured into oil and gas with only a handful of dedicated, disciplined workers; today, that figure has risen to over 200.
This growth is a testament to Fastart’s commitment to developing internal capabilities and empowering the local OGSE industry, while supporting communities and fostering socioeconomic development.
Through continuous training programmes, skills-development workshops, and active participation in industry forums, Fastart ensures its team remains at the forefront of industry advancements.
Fastart also explores partnerships to create more job opportunities for Sarawakians. “One example is our partnership with Honeywell, which enabled us to secure the Petronas tank gauging system contract,” Tommy added.
Fastart is committed to developing its internal capabilities and empowering the local OGSE industry.
Aligned with the National Energy Policy 2022–2040, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and Petronas’ Net Zero Carbon Emissions 2050 Pathway, Fastart has launched initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmental stewardship. By the end of 2025, it targets a 20 percent emissions reduction by converting some vehicles and machinery to electric, and aims for 100 percent of its site electricity to be solar-powered by year’s end.
Looking ahead, Fastart aims to cement its position as a leader in oil and gas—known for innovation, safety, and sustainability.
Fastart’s journey from timber to oil and gas and civil construction highlights the power of strategic vision and unwavering commitment. Its ongoing partnerships with Petronas and other industry majors play a pivotal role in driving regional growth and strengthening Malaysia’s energy landscape.
